Volume, tons and bags in one estimate

The calculator converts area and depth into cubic feet and cubic yards, then estimates tons from the density you enter. It can also estimate bag count from bag weight, which is useful when comparing small bagged jobs with bulk delivery.

Dry and wet sand can weigh differently

Moisture and material grading can change bulk density. A supplier may quote sand by ton, cubic yard or bag, so the calculator keeps volume and weight separate and lets you use a project-specific density.

Common planning uses

Use the result for bedding layers, leveling, backfill, masonry or landscape projects. The correct sand type and installation depth depend on the application, so material selection should be verified independently of the quantity estimate.

Coverage depends on the sand density and depth. A 50 lb bag spread thinly covers more area than the same bag used for a deep fill.

How do I calculate how many tons of sand I need?

Calculate the cubic volume and multiply by the tons-per-cubic-yard density for your sand. Supplier density is preferable to a generic planning value.

How many 50lb bags of sand equal 1 cubic yard?

The answer depends on sand density. Multiply the relevant pounds per cubic yard by one cubic yard and divide by 50, rounding up for whole bags.

Will 2 yards of sand fit in a pickup truck?

Sand is heavy and vehicle capacities differ. Check both bed volume and the truck payload rating before loading bulk sand.
